How You Could Join in on This Solar Energy Revolution

The desert has long been a source of imaginative stories.

Its mysterious animal life, extreme fluctuating temperatures, and sand, rocks, and dust for miles around spark the imaginative spirit.

The desert shows up in many ancient stories, beginning with the bible. In fact, many biblical stories surround the events happening in the desert – the Hebrews wandering for 40 years in the desert sands is one main example.

Not to mention the spiritual context one finds often when the desert is mentioned in many ancient texts.

And the longevity of the desert still fascinates us.

But there’s more going on these days in the heat of the desert sands.

Things that are considerably more modern than a wandering nation…

From Desert Mysticism to Desert Farms

The very nature of a desert – in any place in the world, from Saudi Arabia to California – sparks the imagination in a very different, modern way.

See, when experts began to try to come up with different ways to generate electricity, the sun was an obvious answer. After all, it’s set to continue burning consistently for at least another five billion years.

And where better to harness the sun than in the sunniest places on earth?

Solar farms have been popping up in deserts all over the world over the past few years, but a few have truly taken it to the next level.

Back in November 2019, Bill Gates secretive clean energy company, Heliogen, announced the unveiling of a new solar farm that acts like a solar “oven.”

In other words, using mirrors, it can reach temperatures about a quarter of what you’d find on the surface of the sun.

This concentrated solar energy could be used for industrial purposes, utilizing the extreme heat to make things like steel, glass, and cement, which previously could only be created using fossil fuels.

But Heliogen is far from the only company working to utilize the desert for electricity purposes.

The Profit Opportunities in Solar Are There for the Taking

A similar technology – using solar panels and mirrors – has been constructed in the Arabian Desert. It’s called the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

It’s expected to power 1.3 million homes, and reduce carbon emissions by 6.5 million tonnes a year.

Not only that, but the technology of this solar farm is expected to utilize energy storage, using heat rather than batteries.

According to Christos Markides, professor of clean energy technologies of Imperial College London, “Thermal energy storage is something like 10-times cheaper than electrical energy storage. That gives that particular technology an advantage.”

In other words, solar energy is speeding toward an energy revolution.

And an energy revolution means that there are profit opportunities to be had on the horizon.

As mentioned above, solar energy is one of the cheapest energy options out there. It wasn’t always, though.

In fact, over the last several years, the cost of solar energy has decreased by about 99%.

The company that helped make that happen is a global leader in solar panel manufacturing – over the last 12 months, it’s seen a 128.4% growth, and it’s not stopping there.
